They have their place but they end up being a lot of clutter. Stone for trade is a good idea, but I prefer to avoid making stone crafts or mugs. That'll handle a bit of your stone but not nearly enough. Good training for masons, which thanks to above ground building you can always use more of. Just make a couple shops and put blocks on repeat and let them go to work. I always always always have multiple masons working making blocks all the time. You could just smash it with a bridge, you could dump it in the magma sea, or you could quantum stockpile it. There's always gonna be lots of stone, if there's not you aren't digging out something big. Just because most forts have many Urists doesn't make the decision to mug anything else than foolishness. You will end up with high skilled cooks.Īnd if you have plenty of excess Urists, why make them do something stupid just cuz you have a lot of them? Let them party or train or cough learn a useful skill. You will end up with lots of trade equity. Instead of adding one Urist to mugging, add that Urist to your food industry. And high skill food makes for happy Urists. Seriously, let me try yet another dead easy example. And it's gained traction for whatever reason, making it easier since the knowledge is reinforced. People mug because it's easy to understand. A proper Urist would definitely be able to source infinite stone. Mugs don't have the highest trade value per UristWorkUnit. It's just shit that you give away for materials and cages and such. It doesn't really matter if it's the best it's good enough. The prospect of cleaning out a path for a multi-cavern piston to work is rather daunting, and a bother.Īnd dude, chill out. I haven't yet pulled off a magma piston, though. Though I must admit that it's probably my fault too, for not making enough picks and put my professional hauler waves to use as miners. I have enough on my hands normally managing production orders and chains to do that, and my miners are usually very busy until late game carving out bedrooms complexes, cemeteries (I wouldn't call my shit a necropolis) and prospecting the map for minerals and magma as to dick around making room for furniture. It was about the first things I stumbled upon while picking up the game it's right there, and lo! hither came the caravans, and they found that my crafts were good.Įither way, your solutions require stockpile micromanagement. I appreciate it's an easy answer but it's so much not the best answer that I'm always surprised/frustrated that it's so entrenched. Seriously, does Captain Duck recommend mugging? I don't understand why it's the default answer for so many Urists. Enterprising magmawerks is limited by the immigration waves, not by the stacking/pistoning.Īnyways, enough about pedantry. Once Urist gets the hang of stacks or pistons it's eminently possible to have magmawerks up and running within a year (or two). But remember it's very possible to set up magmawerks PDQ. By the second caravan, it's food for export. I will crank out surplus mechanisms before the first caravan just to buy that first anvil. if rock pots are complicated I wish Urist the best in developing better gaming skills.Īs for glass and metal requiring too much time, it's a legit argument, sort of. Kitfox Discord #modding-discussion channelīronzemurder and Oilfurnace (illustrated)Īs for stockpile space, I have two counters, quantum stockpiling and space isn't scarce.Īs for food being tricky since rock pots.
